COMPANY NEWS:American Junior Golf Association (AGJA) Gets Players Revved About Golf’s Future

2005-07-29

Members at Austin’s University of Texas Golf Club did not know quite what to make of the 30-foot trailer that spilled out motocross ramps, riders, and heaps of riding gear last week into its parking lot.  But as soon as the demonstration started behind the OGIO banners a few hours later, even the most conservative club members let loose a shout of support.
Team OGIO unleashed a contingency of its official motocross team at the American Junior Golfers Association’s Stars of Texas Junior Tournament to demonstrate what a little adrenaline can bring to the game.  “At first, few could grasp what golf and motocross have in common,” explains Andy Gilkison, OGIO’s National Golf Sales Manager.  “But OGIO is an adrenaline brand – one that so many of today’s kids can associate with.  By sharing our moto team with the AJGA, we can infuse a little fun, pumped-up OGIO DNA into the experience, and draw more of the X-Games generation into the sport.”
Gilkison is quick to caution that OGIO genuinely respects the tradition of the game. “A little motor buzz is great to draw in the crowds, but once they’re here, the AJGA does a fantastic job showing these kids that golf can be as fun, challenging, and athletic as any action sport. Throw in a cool golf bag that looks a lot like their moto or snowboarding gear, and we’ve given them even more reason for them to stick around and play for a while!”
As evidence, Head Club Pro Greg Garner was kind enough to allow Team OGIO members make use of the U of T’s driving range … for playing golf, that is … after the demonstration.  “The atmosphere these guys created here with the show was just great,” he explains.  “The riders were world-class, very funny, and knew how to reach out to the kids. You can bet the tournament players went home with something to talk about.”
Team OGIO will host its next AJGA motocross demonstration on August 10, 2005 at the MindMatters Junior Championship at the Chestnut Ridge Golf Resort in Blairsville, Pennsylvania.
