COMPANY NEWS: OGIO's True Colors Run Red, White and Blue
2008-01-17
ORLANDO, Florida / PGA Merchandise Show Booth #2373 (January 17, 2008) – For many industries, the fact that color trends were being driven by the political climate would come as little surprise. But in golf, where black has always been the new black, it is a surprise to find any color – let alone three – competing for the top spot in product sales.
“Black bags have outsold all other colors pretty much since the golf bag was invented,” says Cal Harris.. “But in the past 12 months, we’ve seen dramatic shift in preferences, with the patriotic colors competing between each other for the lead.”
Red, white, and blue golf bags – and especially those sporting metallic accents – are now among OGIO’s top-sellers for 2007, with the trend looking to continue well into 2008.
During the past 12 months, OGIO’s Ozone in “Fire” red outpaced all other colors for the stand bag, with re-orders currently stretching out through March 2008.
Also in the stand bag category, some of the country’s largest golf specialty retailers have placed second and third reorders for OGIO’s navy-and-white Vaporlite. “This bag is on fire,” Harris says. “We can’t keep enough of them in stock.
There may be another explanation for the surge in blue’s popularity. According to trend watcher group JWT in their recent report,” Top 10 Trends for 2008,” they claim:
"Blue is the new green: Climate change has quickly become the driver of environmentalism 2.0, and people worldwide understand that climate is all about the seas and the sky — both blue. Watch for “green” to become a subset of “blue,” which is coming to denote the much larger emerging spirit of good-citizen ethics."
Of course, this being golf, OGIO will continue to offer black for most of its models. For more information about OGIO’s 2008 colorful (and sometimes not-so-colorful) golf and tournament gear, call 800.922.1944 or visit www.ogio.com.
