IN TH NEWS: OGIO Rider Pastrana Overcomes Broken Bike and Dehydration for X-Games Gold & Silver
2005-08-06
Never count Travis Pastrana out. Even after a disastrous first run which resulted in a huge contusion on his leg and the pressure of having to stick his final run, Travis was able to rise to the occasion and give the crowd, and more importantly the judges, what they wanted to see. Throwing down a near perfect back–flip saran wrap no hander lander, Travis was able to go from tenth to second place, giving him the silver medal in the Freestyle Moto-X Best Trick competition.
However, this was not the end of Travis’ freestyle moto-x ascendancy. Two days later, Travis suited up and performed a near flawless run in the Freestyle Moto-X Finals competition which put him in first place after only his first run. Afterwards, an ever-excited Pastrana ran down the length of the stadium high-fiveing the screaming Home Depot Center fans. The early lead established by Travis was only ever threatened by fellow WMG athlete and last year’s X Games gold medal winner Nate Adams who threw down an enormous 360 back flip, the only one performed in the event. Even this though was not enough to un-seat Travis who went on to win the event and re-claim the Gold back from Nate giving Travis his 5th X Games Gold medal in Freestyle Motocross.
