DU Men Finish Second at OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

Sophomore Jeff Koprivetz paces Pioneers in tie for third at 12-under

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The University of Denver men's golf team shot a final-round 2-under par 286 Tuesday, finishing in alone in second place at the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate held at Alisal River Golf Course. The Pioneers, who entered Tuesday with a four-shot lead over second place Cal Poly, posted rounds of 272-274-286 - 832 (32-under par) in the 54-hole tournament, and finished five strokes back. Cal Poly overcame the four-shot deficit with a final round 277 (11-under par) and won with a 54-hole score of 827 (37-under).

Leading the way for the Pioneers for the second consecutive tournament was sophomore Jeff Koprivetz (Yorba Linda, Calif.), who played stellar golf all three rounds and finished tied for third with a 54-hole score of 12-under par 204. Koprivetz shot rounds of 69-66-69 - 204 and finished five strokes back of medalist Chris Kirk of Cal Poly, who blistered the par-72 course with a 17-under par total of 199. Kirk won by four shots over Idaho's Russell Grove.

Next for the Pioneers in a tie for 17th place was senior Charlie Soule (Longmont, Colo.), who shot a final-round even-par 72 Tuesday and finished with a 54-hole score of 210 (6-under par). Sophomore Daniel Wax (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) was just one stroke back at 211 (5-under par) in a tie for 22nd and sophomore Chris Gilman (Yorba Linda, Calif.) rounded out DU's scorers in a tie for 26th at 212 (4-under)

Freshman Espen Kofstad (Oslo, Norway) was also in DU's lineup finished tied for 33rd with a 54-hole score of 213 (3-under par).

The Pioneers are next in action beginning Monday, April 16 when they will attempt to win their first-ever Sun Belt Conference Championship in Orlando, Fla.
